Frequently asked questions - PARTIES

What is the minimum age requirement for children taking part?

The minimum age requirement is 5 years old. However please bear in mind not all 5 year olds will find this easy and you should use your discretion when considering organising a party for very young children. Younger children also have a much shorter attention span so the party may include more games and require more instructors. Please ask if you are concerned about this.

Do parents have to take part?

No, instructors will look after your children at the party and parents/guardians do not have to take part. If however you would like to take part, please let us know! Parents are welcome to stay and spectate.

Do the children's parents have to stay?

No. However you should decide whether this is appropriate based on the children's capabilities, ages and behaviour. You as party host must stay. You should satisfy yourself that you have all of their contact numbers if they are not staying, in the event of an accident or you need to get hold of them. Please note: Any children not adhering to the rules will be asked to leave the course. Waivers must be signed for everyone taking part. This should be done before the party starts. However, if the parents/guardians of the children or your guests are happy for you to do so, and you have all the correct information to be able to complete the waiver, and sign it, you can do so on their behalf. In completing and signing these waivers, OTG assume you have the consent of the parent/guardian of anyone under 16.

How much is it and how do I pay?

Parties are £199 for up to 15 kids and £249 for up to 25 kids. We do not give discounts for lesser amounts. You can go over this amount at £8 per child but this must be agreed at the time of booking and at least 7 days before the party. Please do not assume bigger numbers can be catered for as we may need to adjust our instructor/child ratios. No refunds will be given for children that don't turn up on the day. A non-refundable deposit of £50 is required at the time of booking to secure the date. Please note we are unable to hold dates or 'pencil you in'.

What happens if I need to change the date or cancel?

You can transfer the party booking, subject to availability, but you must give at least 7 days' notice. If the Birthday child is unwell, please contact us and we will do our best to try and move the party to another date, but you may incur administration fees depending on the situation. The £50 deposit is non-refundable.

How long is the party and what is involved

The party booking is for 2 hours. The obstacle course session is 90 mins long leaving you 30 minutes for food/cake at the end. However, OTG do not provide this and you must agree this with us beforehand please see 'Party Food' FAQ.

Do the children need to bring anything?

We also strongly recommend you bring gloves - this helps with grip and stops you getting splinters etc. However, these are available to buy on site but we cannot guarantee stock. Bringing your own drinking water is also recommended. This information is on our party invites.

Are there changing facilities

Yes there are minimal changing facilities. We ask that you come dressed appropriately and bring a carrier bag to take wet/muddy clothes home in and a clean change of clothes. We also recommend you bring a towel.

What should the children wear?

We recommend you wear close-fitting clothing and layer up. You should wear clothing that covers your arms and especially your legs. We strongly recommend gloves. Trainers or trail shoes are essential. Strictly no spikes. High heels, flip flops and strappy sandals etc are not permitted on the course. Long hair should be tied back and all jewellery removed. Please do not bring valuables. If you do, you bring these entirely at your own risk. Gloves are available to purchase on-site subject to availability.

Is there water/refreshments available?

We strongly recommend you bring bottles of water with you and please bring extra when the weather is hot. Please be aware there is lots of water around the course but this water is NOT suitable for drinking.

Are spectators allowed?

Yes we welcome spectators! The obstacle course is a large arena with lanes. We ask that spectators stay on the edge of the arena and do not venture onto the lanes for health and safety reasons. We appreciate spectators may wish to take photos and we ask that you be considerate to the other participants when doing this and do not share images of other people on social media without their consent. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a participating adult who has purchased a ticket. You will then be permitted onto the lanes to assist with your child. You cannot do this as a spectator.

What about my toddler/other children who are not taking part?

Children who are not participating must not venture onto the obstacle course at ANY time.

What do I have to do with regard to waivers?

The obstacle course is a fun activity but carries a risk of injury. Signing a waiver ensures you are aware of the risks and have taken on board the Activity Rules and safety instructions. EVERY PARENT/GUARDIAN OF EVERY PARTICIPATING CHILD who is under 16, must have signed a waiver PRIOR TO THE PARTY. It is the responsibility of the Party Host (the person arranging and/or paying for the party) to ensure these waivers are signed BEFORE the party. Failure to do so will result in delay on the day of your party and this time cannot be added on to the end of the party. Our waiver is now available online and you can request a QR code to send out to your guests which gives them easy access to the online Waiver. Once you have completed an online waiver you do not need to complete this again. If you completed an old 'hard copy' waiver, you must sign an online waiver. If a child has been before but not sure if they have signed an online waiver, please contact us and we can check whether they are on our system.

Is it safe?

This type of activity carries a risk of injury. OTG have taken all steps necessary to minimise risk but you should satisfy yourself that you are happy to take part before attempting the course, and that you are fit and well enough to do so. Safety rules are displayed around the course and the Activity Rules are attached to the waiver which you will sign before taking part. You should ensure you are familiar with them before taking part in this activity. A safety brief will also be given at the start of each session. Please pay attention. A safety check is also carried out prior to the start of each session. Any equipment deemed unfit for purpose will be sealed off with red and white hazzard tape. You must not go under this tape or into the sealed off area. There is an easy and hard option on most of the obstacles and our instructors will ensure that children only go on what they consider suitable. A risk assessment has been carried out for each obstacle and a full folder of these are available for you to look at should you wish to do so. A copy of our public liability insurance is also available on request. All our staff are First Aid Trained and there is a First Aid area in our tent. All our instructors are also CRB checked. If you require any further information please don't hesitate to get in touch with us on 07890 991437 or info@obstacletrainingground.com

Are there toilets?

Yes we now have a toilet on site! This is accessed by a code, please ask a member of staff for the code if you wish to use the toilet. The toilet is sanitised regularly.

Is there car parking?

Yes there is FREE car parking on site. However this is at your own risk and any valuables left in your car are left entirely at your own risk. The car park is visible from the course.

Where is OTG?

OTG is on Brook Road, Bassingbourn SG8 5NS. Please use this postcode for satnav. A map and directions are available at the bottom of our homepage.

Party food?

We do not provide food and this must be arranged by you if you wish to do this. Ordering Dominos pizza is a popular choice but people also bring picnic food. You MUST however ensure you bring sufficient bin bags and note that it is your responsiblity to tidy up after the party - we do not do this for you! Your party is for 2 hours and the obstacle course part is 90 mins. Therefore you will have 30 mins for food. You are responsible for removing any rubbish etc. and you must have vacated the premises at the 2 hour point unless prior agreed. OTG is on private land and the gates are locked at certain times. There may also be another party coming in after you or the instructor may need to leave and you are not permitted on site unsupervised. Please be considerate and don't put us in the embarrassing position of having to ask you to leave! For any further questions please email us info@obstacletrainingground.com or call us on 07890 991437.

Who can complete a waiver?

From the age of 16 you can sign your own waiver. Someone over the age of 18 is needed to sign a waiver of anyone under the age of 16.

We are open and operating within current government guidelines and consider our venue as safe as possible. We are an outdoor venue and our droplet transmission rate is considered 'low'. We take the safety of our customers extremely seriously and have also put in place additional measures. Every visitor is required to use our 'Track and Trace' and our QR code is clearly displayed when you book in. Please read the information on our dedicated Covid-19 page. However, please bear in mind that government guidelines are constantly changing and we try and keep the information on our website and social media platforms as up to date as possible. However, this is not always possible and we recommend you contact us prior to your booking if you have any concerns.

How do I book a party?

Please go to our Booking page and select 'Parties' from the drop down menu (it is usually set to 'Pay & Play'). Please then select a party ticket. You will find a calendar with available dates.
